We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday experience with us at our annual “Hot Holiday Salsa Party!” We were pleased to host this-end of the year party with our friend and guest DJ, Joey Jones. Joey, who is better known as DJ “Jo Jo”, also offered a fantastic intermediate lesson as a gift to our Salseros. Each year keeps getting better and better. In addition, our greatest sponsor, The Doubletree Hotel also provided an exquisite buffet and drink specials for all who attended.
Our Jack and Jill contest winners received Mini LP Congas as trophies. Our committee agreed that a conga of any size would be the perfect symbol for our Latin dancers. Sorry guys a full size conga was a bit out of our budget. Nonetheless, this contest was filled with numerous surprises for the dancers as well as the crowd. Everyone was well entertained when the final challenge of the dance was to give the ladies a chance to lead and the gentlemen to follow! Congratulations to Carlos and Brenda on winning the grand price!
We also took some time throughout the night to honor outstanding members in our Salsa community. A special recognition award was given to “The Bakersfield Salsa Club” for a Community Organization that has helped promote Salsa dancing in Bakersfield. The most improved dancers of the year were also given special recognition. Tim Ruiz and Magdalena Cruz were surprised to receive theSalsero and Salsera of the year award!
Our Salsero and Salsera of the year has traditionally been a top male and female member of our Salsa community who stands out and has made great efforts to make this community a positive experience for all. These individuals have shown a true passion for Latin music and dance. We have always felt that recognition for dedication, selfless enthusiasm, hard work, and unity are the cornerstones of what it is to be a "Bakersfield Salsero". These Salseros take to heart our mantra "Live to dance, dance to live!"
The Bakersfield Salseros as an organization realizes the importance of recognition. We recognize and honor all of our dancers who continually exhibit a friendliness and welcoming attitude that makes us all feel connected, much like a family. We feel events like these are important to perpetuate a feeling of unity through diversity. We would cease to exist if it weren't for all these wonderful people. Benditos sean tus pasos!
